WHO YOU'LL HELP

Travel advisors help people who want to take a trip but lack the time, experience or know-how to put it all together. Your 'client' could be your parent, sibling, friend - or stranger who discovers your business!

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You'll research the destination your client wants to travel to and put together the perfect itinerary for their trip based on their needs and preferences. Once they approve it, you'll get to booking it all: hotels, tours and more!

HOW YOU'LL EARN

You'll use an "accreditation number" at time of booking to let the suppliers (e.g. hotels, tours) know you're a travel advisor. They'll issue you a commission - (% of the total cost of the booking) - after your client travels!

"SO...HOW MUCH IS THAT?"
Let's take a look at the components of a typical trip and how much commission travel advisors can earn:
The Hotel / Resort: 10-20%

No matter if it's 3-star or 5-star, hotels are typically where you'll earn the most because it's the largest trip expense!

The Tours / Activities: 5-10%

A walking tour, a theme park - these activities are the reasons your clients travel, and the reasons you'll earn!

The Transportation: 5-15%

Transportation is a huge part of a trip - from airport transfers to rental cars - and you could earn commission on it!

The Insurance: 10-30%

Travel insurance protects a traveler's investment in their trip. Travel advisors can earn commission on these policies!

Travel advisors can also earn from booking ocean + river cruises, all-inclusive resorts, safaris, and much more!

    Travel advisors need to obtain an "accreditation number" to secure commissions from travel suppliers (e.g. hotels, tour operators). The fastest, least expensive and easiest way to do this is to join a 'host agency.' There are thousands of host agencies to choose from, and each handles onboarding differently.

    Some charge no membership fee to join. Some charge a one-time fee. Others charge a monthly or annual fee to join and retain membership.

    Host agencies vary regarding which services they provide their travel advisors, and this is often reflected in the cost of the membership fee. The upper range you should expect to pay if joining a reputable host agency with a fee is a few hundred dollars per year.

    As with any business, there are other costs to consider as you grow, such as software tools. This depends on what services your host agency already provides for you and how much you want to invest in your business.
